The Google Traffic Diet

May 27, 2006

Google hasĀ dropped new guidelines for it’s search results and once again webmasters are hopping mad. They feel that they will be dropped in the search results and lose income especially from adsense and other affiliate programs.

The point is that if you are not doing the questionable practices that Google forbids why get angry? If Google and any other company online and off didn’t make changes then the bad seeds can worm their way in and do fraud or worse simply because they figured out different ways to pull it off.

Some of the new changes include:

  • Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines, or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
  • If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.
  • Simple and to the point.

I thought that’s the way it’s always been (or, at least, for quite a while). I don’t think that they’re changes in the rules, but in the “wording” of the rules, possibly. Either way, though, rather than just making and changing rules, it would be nice if there were an easier way for them to “enforce” those rules.

The search engines seem to be getting a little better at filtering out the spam blogs, but there’s still “way” too many out there.

    Got something to say?
